God of War Ragnarök is here, and with it comes the continuation of both Kratos' and Atreus' stories. But, do you play as him in God of War Ragnarök?
Kratos and Atreus's relationship is a significant aspect of the story, and an understanding of the prequel may be useful before starting God of War Ragnarök. This, alongside his skill progression, make a comeback in Ragnarök, and are considerably stronger due to the passage of time.
Do You Play as Atreus in God of War Ragnarök?
The answer to this is both yes and no. Like previous God of War games, Kratos can only be played for the vast majority of gameplay. As such, it isn't possible to switch between Kratos and Atreus throughout the game.
However, there are certain missions of the game which will require you to play Atreus for a short time. Combat as Atreus is possible during this time, and skills he has developed up until that point will be of use. Once you've finished these specific missions, though, you'll have to return to play as Kratos.
