FromSoftware Reportedly Near Done With Next Game, Hiring for 'Several New Projects'

An unannounced FromSoftware title is in the final stages of its development, and several others are in the works, studio president and CEO/director Hidetaka Miyazaki said in an interview with Japanese publication 4Gamer.net (H/T Gematsu).

FromSoftware has also begun recruiting development staff for "several new projects," as announced by the developer's Twitter account Friday.

"First off," Miyazaki told 4Gamer.net (translation by Gematsu), "we’re going to continue releasing updates for Elden Ring. Also, as I’ve mentioned before, we’re developing several titles by directors other than myself in addition to the title that I’m directing, but we’re not at the stage where I can share any details yet. My apologies, but please give us a little more time."

FromSoftware doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon.

Elden Ring was released earlier this year on Feb. 25 and notably went on to shatter the launch sales of previous Souls games in 17 days, surpassing 12 million units sold around the world with one million in Japan alone.

Additionally, according to SteamDB, on March 3 Elden Ring charted an all-time peak of 953,426 concurrent players on Steam — the sixth-highest number ever recorded on the platform.

As pointed out by Gematsu, this latest 4Gamer.net piece was somewhat of a follow-up on its 2018 interview with Miyazaki, in which the FromSoftware executive shared that "3.5" of the games the team was working on at the time were unannounced.

Since then, 2.5 of the titles were revealed to be Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice (2019), PSVR exclusive Déraciné (2018) and Elden Ring, leaving one full project unaccounted for.

Miyazaki ultimately didn’t hint at what the game in the final stage of its development was, nor what the several other titles that the studio is seemingly hiring in bulk for are.

One theory could be that it's a new installment in the Armored Core series, which would be the franchise's first in almost a decade.

Back in January, screenshots and a short summary for an Armored Core 6 seemingly leaked, detailing that it's a third-person shooter "mecha action title that lets you move around an overwhelmingly scaled map that represents a unique sci-fi world with dynamic mech action."

With the last Armored Core title having came out in 2012, as well as this year also being the 25th anniversary of the series, it certainly would make a lot of sense for this to be the next FromSoftware game released.

Of course, as with all leaks and rumors, feel free to take all of this information with a grain of salt until it's officially announced by FromSoftware.
