It's been a tough couple of weeks for Resurgence fans in the Call of Duty: Warzone community, to say the least.

With the launch of Warzone 2.0, not only were the original Warzone and its flashy movement mechanics taken down for nearly two weeks, but Rebirth Island and Fortune's Keep also remain to simply be out of commission for the forseeable future.

For those who are already tired of Al Mazrah and Caldera, however, it appears there just might be a new Resurgence map on the horizon to spice things up: Hashima Island.

As leaked on two separate occasions, it does appear that Activision isn't going to be saying goodbye to Resurgence maps forever.

Back in May, an eXputer report made by prominent gaming insider Tom Henderson suggested that a second Warzone 2 map "similar in size to Rebirth Island" is "well into development," and likely to release "some time" after the new battle royale launches.

Henderson also went on to speculate that the secondary map would likely release during year two of Modern Warfare 2’s development cycle, if the Warzone trend of content continues, in December 2023.

In September, COD leaker @TheGhostOfHope tweeted "Infinity Ward are planning to release a Resurgence style map sometime midway through 2023. Another new Battle Royale map coming in late 2023."

Although it remains to be seen what Infinity Ward's official plans are for Resurgence maps in Warzone 2, a popular rumor that has long circulated around the COD community is that of Hashima Island, a tiny abandoned island that exists in real life in Nagasaki Prefecture. Like Rebirth Island's Alcatraz-inspired remake, Hashima Island's mysterious past has since led it to be a tourist attraction, perhaps also paving the way for it to become a natural backdrop for a Resurgence map in Warzone 2.

Ultimately, it is no surprise that there remains to be plenty of demand for a Resurgence setting in Warzone 2. Whether Infinity Ward and company choose to debut a Hashima Island map, or simply bring Rebirth Island and Fortune's Keep over to Warzone 2, it's clear that the addition of a Resurgence map can't come soon enough.
