Players are completely enamored with the feline protagonist of Annapurna Interactive’s cyberpunk adventure, Stray.

If we’re being honest: who wouldn’t be? Stray captures the adorable nature of cat behavior in a way that hasn’t been seen before in similar titles. It’s no wonder some cat owners are looking to see their own feline friends up on the big screen — adventuring to eventually be reunited with their own family beyond the city’s limits.

Here’s what you need to know about getting your own cat in Stray.

How to Get Your Cat in Stray

Unfortunately, Stray does not have a built-in cat customization mechanic. Players will just have to make due with the default orange tabby cat that serves as the game’s main protagonist throughout its narrative.

Unless, of course, they have a decent computer with the knowledge — or a knowledgeable friend — for modding and retexturing video games.

Since its release, fans have taken it upon themselves to mod their own cats in place of Stray’s orange tabby. The modding platform pages are full of similar listings for “Cat Breed (modeled after my own).” These have included bi-color tuxedos, calicos, different flavors of tabby, and the quintessential all black.

Fortunately, those of us who are out of luck when it comes to modding the game or getting someone to do it for us — several “pick your favorite” listings already exist. This includes SpaceD0lphin’s “Pick of the Litter” mod which has a collection of skins ready to go.
